Addictions

Scientists say that facebook have the same chemical effect on the brain as cocaine, if you want to believe science. I quit cigarettes 10 days ago and are doing pretty good with it, as my body is removing the toxins from my system and showing me what emotional issues I were covering up with the cigarettes. When I wake up in the morning, what I'm craving the most is checking facebook, which i didn't allow myself to do this morning because of just that, the craving.. So whatever form the addiction take: tobacco, alkohol, sweets, food, drugs, facebook, internet, sex, gambling, work, exercise, tv, shopping, to mention some... the question is: what are we covering up by doing this repetitive behaviours, what is it that we can't be with within ourselves, what emotions is it that we are craving to cover up, and what is the underlying fear if this feeling isn't covered up?
The underlying current of addiction is very clever as it has the ability to shapeshift into almost any form it wants, so stopping the cigarettes can result in an increased interest in sweets and food, so we keep covering up these emotions and start wondering about where these extra kilo's are coming from, it must be the cigarettes fault, maybe I should start smoking again...

  2. Addictions! Hmmm how many words am I limited to? ;)
We've all got them no matter how big or small.I've got good mental discipline but my downfall is that I'm rather child-like with humble needs, so a lot of things could get me in a mad frenzy dash for something. I'm good with dealing with stress yet I have seen myself rushing to grab a cigarette - very rare even though I'm a smoker. I don't smoke in public, just in the evenings.I'l have to put a shared #1 with smoking and drinking tea/coffee. #2 will be my computer. There is a fine line to my interests/hobbies and it's not all internet related yet the first thing I do when I get in from work (and mostly on a day off work)is turn on my pc. I leave the pc on even though I'm busy sorting out myself and the household/chores, etc. Then I return to the pc to play some music only to find I've been on the beast for half an hour before I play the first tune! #3 is gaming. It's always been a hobby of mine since the late 1970's. I don't watch t.v that much so if I'm not socialising with friends and family, I immerse myself into some video game and it usually lasts a good few hours! I've got to class it as an addiction because I do it on a daily basis. If I'm not playing a game, I'm watching or reading about them in my 'gaming time'. A sort of addiction #4 would be chocolate, but only at a certain time of month....Be it chocolate cake, bars or biscuits, if anyone dare steal the chocolate I've hidden in the cupboard, boy, they can look out! ;)
Oh, and naked duels with mages! xD Sorry for trolling but thought I'd open my can of worms in here :) (Grandma Jenkins here - too lazy to add urls and stuff)
